Go to your device’s Settings then find and select Control Center. You will find a list of shortcuts that can be added to your Control Center. Scroll down to More Controls and find the Music Recognition shortcut with the Shazam logo. Tap the plus (+) button beside it. Just like that, you’ve added Shazam to your iPhone to fire whenever you want it, with the shortcut running Shazam’s song identification whenever this button is pressed. We're big fans of Apple's Shortcuts app. It's a time-saving widget-maker that's really fun to experiment with. Think of Shortcuts as an in-phone version of If This Then That, which gets your iPhone's apps to work together in a sequence to generate a useful action. There are official Apple-created Shortcuts and user-generated ones too. Some Shortcuts bring Siri voice control into the mix, such as the fun 'Say Cheese' Shortcut which lets you grab a hands-free photo by saying 'Siri, say cheese' to your phone.

Here's how you can view and access the history of identified songs via Siri on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch. Imagine yourself in a situation where you're at a restaurant (or club), listening to an. With the Shortcuts widget, you can launch your favorite shortcut with just a tap and even quickly access the Shortcuts folder. It’s much better than taking the usual route to add shortcuts to launch or access some of the most frequent hacks. So, do not fail to add it to your special collection of useful iPhone widgets. A classic example of an official Shortcut that you tap to activate is the 'Home ETA' Shortcut. No matter where you are, this Shortcut uses the Maps app to see where you're at, looks at your pre-programmed home address to see how long it will take you to get there, then uses your Messages app to generate an SMS with your ETA, and sends this information to a pre-selected contact. So, once you've initially entered the required data in the Shortcut sequence, all this happens by simply tapping on the Shortcut in your Shortcuts library.

Getting started with Shortcuts on iPhone

Shortcuts is now pre-installed as standard on any devices running at least iOS 13, but anyone on an older version of the mobile operating system will have to download the app from the App Store. It's available for both the iPhone and the iPad.

If you want to add third-party Shortcuts, you'll have to go through an approval screen on iOS 12. iOS 13 and 14 users need to head to their Settings to manually 'Allow Untrusted Shortcuts.'

There's always a risk doing this, but as you can view (and edit) the Shortcut steps of each Shortcut you add to your phone, the danger is pretty minimal, as long as you know you're downloading a genuine Shortcuts iCloud link.

Troubleshooting

Shortcuts really shines for iOS 13 and iOS 14 users, but anyone still stuck on iOS 12 might not get the best out of all these Shortcuts. If, when you click on an iCloud link, your phone keeps opening the App Store instead of the Shortcuts app, try opening the link in your iPhone's Safari browser. That should do the trick.

Shortcuts that make the cut

Use the Shazam app

If you have the Shazam app installed on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, you can use the app to identify music and save them to your library.

  1. Open the Shazam app on your device.
  2. Tap or click the Shazam button to identify what’s playing around you.

When Shazam identifies the song, it’s saved in My Music, along with all your other previous Shazams.

After you identify a song, you can connect to Apple Music and other music services to listen to your Shazam.

If you don’t have an internet connection, the app still creates a unique digital fingerprint to match against the Shazam database the next time your device is connected to the internet. If a song can’t be identified, it will disappear from your pending Shazams.

Use Auto Shazam

To have Shazam automatically identify what’s playing around you, touch and hold (or double-click on Mac) the Shazam button . When Auto Shazam is on, Shazam matches what you’re hearing with songs in the Shazam database—even when you switch to another app. Shazam never saves or stores what it hears.

You can then find the Shazams identified with Auto Shazam in My Music, grouped together by date.

To turn off Auto Shazam, tap or click the Shazam button.

Use Shazam in Control Center on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can Shazam songs right from Control Center on your iPhone or on your iPad.* To add Shazam to Control Center, go to Settings > Control Center, then tap the Add button next to Music Recognition.

To identify songs from Control Center, tap the Shazam button to identify what's currently playing on your device or around you. Shazam can identify songs playing on your device even if you're using headphones.

See your previous Shazams

You can see your previous Shazams in the Shazam app on your device and online when you create a Shazam account.

  • On iPhone or iPad, swipe up on the main Shazam screen to access My Music.
  • On Mac, recent Shazams appear below the Shazam button.
  • On Apple Watch, recent Shazams appear below the Shazam button, and are also saved to My Music on the paired iPhone.
  • To access your Shazams on your other Apple devices and online at shazam.com/myshazam, you can save your Shazams in iCloud. This also ensures that you won't lose your Shazams if something happens to your device.

Change your settings

In the Shazam app, swipe up to My Music from the main Shazam screen, then tap the Settings button to adjust Shazam settings:

  • Control Notifications from Shazam.
  • To have Shazam automatically start listening when the app is opened, turn on “Shazam on app start.”
  • Use iCloud to back up your Shazams.

Microphone settings on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Shazam needs access to the microphone on your device to hear what you're listening to. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, scroll down to the installed apps and tap Shazam, then turn on Microphone. If you don’t see an option for Microphone, you might have restrictions turned on for Privacy settings.
